RULES & REGULATIONS GOVERNING CEMETERY PROPERTY

The Cemetery Committee of Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, Minnesota, has adopted the following rules and regulations governing the property named Calvary Memorial Cemetery, located in that part of the Northwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter in Section 5, Township 136 North, Range 39 West of the Fifth principal Meridian in Otter Tail County, Minnesota.

Calvary Memorial Cemetery is intended for Christian burials. However, it is an open cemetery. Permission for burial is not granted on the basis of religious affiliation.

All gravesites remain the property of Calvary Memorial Cemetery. All gravesite owners receive a burial permit giving them the right to bury members of the immediate family or household in the graves recorded on the burial permit. The permit and right to bury shall contain description of such and shall refer to the rules and regulations set forth herein and it shall be signed by an officer of the cemetery committee and the person(s) procuring it. The original permit shall be delivered to the person(s) procuring it upon payment of the purchase price. The cemetery committee shall retain a copy.

Calvary Memorial Cemetery will repurchase burial permits from families that no longer have a need for such permit. The repurchase price will be the original purchase price.

Purchase price for a permit is $75.00 per gravesite. This includes perpetual care of the purchased site. Future purchase prices may be changed at the direction of the cemetery committee.

One burial per gravesite is allowed. Exceptions to this rule will allow two burials if one or both bodies have been cremated. However, in that instance, only one upright monument will be allowed at the gravesites.

Monuments and markers are to be placed at the head of the grave, which is the westerly end. It is preferable that inscriptions of family names will face westerly. Foot markers for military funerals will also be allowed at the foot of the grave. Monuments and markers shall not be set closer than six inches to the neighboring graves. Two officers of Calvary Memorial Cemetery Committee must approve any exceptions.

Vaults are required for all casket burials. Only vaults of cement or steel construction may be used.

A fee of $25.00 will be assessed each burial to compensate for time involved in marking grave locations in preparation for internment.

Gravesites in Section One are 4 feet 9 ¾ inches by 12 feet. Gravesites in Section Two and Section Three are 4 feet 6 inches by 12 feet.

Perpetual care shall include the cutting of the grass at reasonable intervals during the growing season, and the pruning of trees and shrubs when deemed necessary, as well as responsibility for the overall appearance of the grounds.

Maintenance and care of any monument or marker placed on the gravesite will always be the responsibility of the family and heirs of the person(s) buried at that site.

Calvary Memorial Cemetery Committee reserves the right to oversee the use of the entire cemetery grounds. The planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers, or the placing of ornaments and structures other than the monument must have the approval of two officers of the cemetery committee. The committee should be sensitive to the needs of the families using Calvary Memorial Cemetery and the families must have regard for neighboring gravesites as well as the persons maintaining the cemetery grounds, especially the areas adjacent to the monuments and markers. Permanent plantings and structures should fit into the overall landscaping plan for the grounds.

Calvary Memorial Cemetery Committee of Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, Minnesota, reserves the right to amend these rules and regulations and the right to adopt additional rules and regulations when necessary. Calvary Memorial Cemetery Committee reserves the right to make exceptions to any of the preceding rules and regulations when the occasion seems advisable. Two officers of said committee must approve any exceptions.

HISTORY OF THE CEMETERY

The German Lutheran St. Paul Church Society of rural Perham established the cemetery on April 5, 1879. The Perham United Church of Christ used it as their cemetery for almost 100 years until we acquired it in 2001.

There have been many improvements to the cemetery since that time. One of the latest improvements is a beautiful granite sign and landscaping dedicated in the memory of Merle Lange by the Lange family and we thank them for their generous gift.
